President's Email - Nov 2017
With our recent and very successful Blue Water AGM Paddle Fest completed at Barwon Heads, I wanted to follow up with a few important news items. A full coverage of the Paddle Fest will appear in the next issue of Sea Trek:
We have filled all Committee vacancies with the exception of Treasurer, Training Coordinator and Communications Coordinator. Descriptions of these roles were circulated with AGM papers and are on the website.
It will be extremely difficult for the Club Committee to operate without these roles in place. Indeed, the Treasurer role is one of our Club Office Bearers under the legislation we operate by.
The Committee has a quorum and will be meeting soon to get underway for 2018, but I urge all members who consider they have the skills and capacity to nominate for these roles. You can do so by emailing interest to Joe Alberico, Club Secretary or me by email initially.
If we are unable to fill the roles, then our ability to implement a range of Club programs in 2018 will be greatly diminished.
If you have not paid your subscriptions for the coming year, they are now overdue. We will follow up over the next month or so, but unpaid subscriptions as at the end of January 2018 risk your membership being archived (ie rendered inactive). You can pay by accessing the Trybooking link provided as part of the AGM notice (website).
Planning for 2018
The Committee is meeting early December to consider plans for 2018. We will review matters mentioned at the AGM, existing projects underway and potential new priorities for 2018. We will be giving early attention to sharpening up the trips calendar for the first quarter of 2018 – watch this space!
Skills training and grading review – Club Discussion Forum
The Training Review Reference Group that developed recommendations for our new training and degrading model that was approved by the Committee, will be reconvened early in 2018 to consider implementation plans. These plans relate to the new model that has previously been communicated to all members.
To assist with this process, a discussion forum for all Trip Leaders, Instructors and other interested members will be held in February 2018 to discuss implementation plans. I am hoping we can put on a barbeque at a convenient bayside location to entice members to attend.
The Committee feels that it is very important that the way we implement the new grading and training model best meets members expectations, and a discussion forum to work through the mechanics of this will be very useful.
Announcements will be made via email and the website.
At the AGM weekend, we announced the launch of a new range of Club merchandise. I encourage all members to go online via the link in the news section of the website to order a new tee shirt or polo – we are keen to see as many members as possible wearing the new livery! November.
Club Facebook Page
We have been very pleased with the dynamic community that has been growing on the Club’s Facebook page. If you are a Club member and active on Facebook, please consider joining the group. It is a closed group, so you have to opt in. But, if you do so, you will be added quickly. The more active participants we have in the group, the better!
