Implementation of new grading model commences

Dear All Members,

I am pleased to advise that implementation of our new grading model has commenced. This has been the subject of extensive communication with members over the past 12 months, culminating in Committee approval late last year. On 21 and 22 April, a successful intake weekend for the Club’s Instructor trainees was completed. The program the trainee instructors will go through from here will likely take 12 months. In parallel, the Club will be commencing in the near future the new Sea Leader intake (this replaces our Grade 3 intake). The trainee instructors will be overseeing this program, under the watchful eye of Club Assessor, Terry Barry, and Instructors John and Tina Evertz. This will ultimately provide us with additional active trip leaders who can respond to member’s demand for more and more trips. Further details of this will be advised to all members shortly, as well as training events directed at Introduction to Sea Skills (replaces Grade 1) and Sea Skills (replaces Grade 2). These events will be advised via the website calendar, so watch this space. In addition, the Committee will shortly consider a detailed implementation plan (and associated policies). This plan has been informed by the Special Member’s Forum that was held on 7 April. We are aiming to have a large chunk of our new model in place by the end of 2019, pending resourcing.

Best regards

Richard Rawling
